What the numbers on a Singapore listing mean

You are buying the years left on a certificate as much as the car. Here is how to read one properly, including on someone else's listing.

Work out a monthly payment
Depreciation per year
What the car actually costs you to own. Price minus what you get back when the COE ends, divided by the years left. Two cars at the same price can differ by thousands a year. This is the number to compare.
COE remaining
Every car in Singapore runs on a Certificate of Entitlement: ten years from new, and five or ten more when renewed. When it expires you renew it or deregister the car. Less COE left means a cheaper car and a shorter runway. Neither is automatically better.
PARF and COE cars
A PARF car is under ten years old and still carries a rebate when you deregister it. A COE car has been renewed and has no rebate left, which is why it looks cheap up front.
OMV and the loan cap
Open Market Value sets how much you may borrow. At an OMV over $20,000 you can finance at most 60% of the price; at or under, 70%. For a used car the OMV is first reduced for its age, so most older cars qualify for 70%. It is a rule, not a negotiation.

Come and look at it properly

Photographs only tell you so much. Every car here can be inspected, driven, and taken to your own mechanic before you commit to anything.
